Here’s a quick kikoy tying tutorial!

Kikoys have always been a staple in our household growing up and many Kenyan families can tell you the same.

Made out of 100% cotton, the kikoy is a traditional East African woven cloth which is rectangular in shape and is considered a part of Swahili culture.

Some of you were wondering how to actually tie a kikoy, here’s one way I do it! I chose to wear tights underneath in this tutorial so I have something tight enough to tuck the fabric into (but I also sometimes just tuck it into my underwear and that works too!) 
.
I like the look of this particular style because it gives the kikoy this cool drapey effect (very side note: if you’re looking for the ultimate expert in fabric drapery check out @natasha.thasan’s page cause her drapery is absolutely stunning!)

But honestly anyone who wears them can tell you there are multiple ways to tie a kikoy and it may take you a few tries to get it right but practice always makes perfect!

And before anyone comes in my comments asking ‘how do you go to the toilet?’ Simple. Remove the kikoy, pull down your tights and get to it! And once you’re done, just tie it back up again!
